The Mage Calling in Rift

The Mage Calling in Rift

While the Mage calling in Rift is primarily a ranged damage dealer, she is also capable of equipping a healing Role and stepping in to help out the party in that respect. And while you might think that all casting dpscharacters are the same, you should understand that each damage dealing Soul offers a different skill set that can assist the group in many different ways.

For example, you may choose to keep a Role with souls attuned that provide tons of Area of Effect damage, or great crowd control abilities. Rift’s Soul System gives you so many opportunities that it just doesn’t make sense to not take advantage of them.

Here’s what you need to know about the PvE Souls for the Mage calling in Rift:

Archon: Support specialists, debuffer. Uses both Fire and Earth magics.

Chloromancer: Healing specialist, can also provide crowd control and cleanse the party.

Dominator: Support specialist, offers great crowd control and several instant direct damage spells. Can also cleanse allies and dump aggro. Uses Death and Air magics.

Elementalist: Offensive mages with Earth, Fire, Air magics. Uses direct damage spells and AoE, can summon Elemental pets to help in combat.

Necromancer: Offensive mages with undead pets. Use Damage over Time (DoT) and direct damage spells, along with drains and AoE. Can sacrifice part of health pool to heal an ally. Uses Death magic.

Pyromancer: Offensive mages with Fire magic in both direct damage and DoT spells. Also has AoEabilities and can buff herself for additional power.

Stormcaller: Offensive specialist, uses Air and Water magics. Has a channeled DoT with an enemy knockback and uses direct damage spells. Can resurrect an ally.

Warlock: Offensive specialist, uses Entropy and Death magics. Has both DoT and direct damage spells, along with a Mana Tap, Fear, and a self healing ability. Can also Silence and Slow enemies for additional crowd control and support utility.

Now that you have your favorite souls picked out, attune three of them in a role. For the most efficiency, try to take the two major souls from those who use the same type of magic. Because some of the talents you’ll select offer a bonus to spells from one school of magic, having two or more Souls that use that school allows the buff to pertain to more of your abilities.

For example, the Pyromancer, Archon and Elementalist Souls all use Fire magic. The Archon tree offers a Soul Fire ability that increases all Fire damage; this means that you’ll be able to enjoy that extra passive buff in nearly all of your abilities if you fill your Role with those Souls.

Additionally, you can create Roles that are purely situational. For example, if a certain encounter requiresyour group to deal with mobs who can heal themselves, you might select the Chloromancer and Dominator combination. Attuning these Souls will allow you to heal your group and hinder the healing of your enemies, while still providing some dps. You can fill out this Role with the Stormcaller for an out of combat resurrection or with the Elementalist for extra Air magic boosts.

Above all, keep in mind that your play style should be the primary dictator of the Souls you choose to attune. If you’re not happy with your role in the party and you don’t enjoy playing the game, you will soon find yourself rolling an alt or even not logging on at all. Regardless how you spec her, your Mage brings quite a bit to the table.
