Solving puzzles in Telara Part 1; a Rift player’s guide
Along with PvE, PvP, crafting, collecting Artifacts and closing Rifts, the developers at Trion Worlds thought you might like a little something else to do. You know, in your free time. Enter the Puzzles.
Each zone in the game contains its own unique puzzle. Solve it and you’ll be rewarded with an item of green, blue or purple quality that scales with your level. The level of the zone will give you an accurate idea of the item level you can receive for each puzzle. You’ll also get an a achievement for solving the puzzle. The first six puzzles are detailed in this part of the guide. Part 2 will cover the final six puzzles.
Freemarch: Sleeping with the Fishes
Loot Level: 15 Min, 30 Max
You will find this puzzle at the bottom of the Lake of Solace, at the coordinates 5988, 6141 on your map. Find the puzzle and then re-surface to fill your breath; you’re going to need full lungs to accomplish this task. Swim back down to the puzzle and get in the middle of the ring of lamps. Click each lamp to turn it on. When they are all lit, a loot box will appear in your inventory. Open it to reveal the Rusty Key which unlocks the chest that just spawned near you. Open the chest to receive your item.
Silverwood: Puzzled at the Top of the World
Loot level: 15 Min, 30 Max
Locate the Overwatch Keep in Silverwood at the coordinates 6417, 3156 on your map. Reading the plaque on the wall will present you the option of teleporting up to the tower’s highest point, where you can begin your puzzle. You’ll need to find your way through the maze of teleportations to receive your reward. The secret is to move in a counter-clockwise direction to the next plaque on the wall; the old ”Right-hand Rule” applies well here. The final tower will hold the chest and your key will be placed in your inventory.
Gloamwood: Shield Wall
Loot Level: 20 Min, 35 Max
Located in the northwestern part of Gloamwood, you’ll discover the Shield Wall puzzle at 3549, 2380 at Shadefallen Keep. Find the main castle at the back of the area and you’ll see a plaque here. Just as in the Silverwood puzzle, clicking on this plaque to read it will teleport you to the puzzle area. Your goal is to get the shields to make a particular pattern.
The larger shields will need to be at the four corners, with the small, round shields forming a cross. The one unique shield should be in the middle. There are buttons across the top and bottom of the X axis, and across the left and right sides of the Y axis. Click the first button from the left along the bottom row, then the bottom button in the right column, and finally, the middle button along the left column. A chest will appear for you to loot as per usual.
Scarlet Gorge: A Barrel of Laughs
Loot Level: 20 Min, 35 Max
Head to the northern edge of the Scarlet Gorge zone and take the bridge above Riverfell. When you get to the other side, head to the right until and continue until you reach the cliff’s edge. Looking over the edge of the cliff, you’ll see a small ledge you can stand on. Drop down onto the ledge and you’ll see the puzzle, tucked underneath the wooden walkway. You should be at the coordinates 3600, 2760 on your map.
You simply need to make the two sides match, and you can only manipulate the items on the left. The item you click will move into the empty space. Note that while more than one person can move the items, only the person who moves the final item into place will receive the loot. If you plan to do this with a friend, make sure everyone is willing to stick around until all players have completed the puzzle.
Stonefield: Spinning Plates
Loot Level: 20 Min, 35 Max
First, you will need to locate and ascend to the mountain peak between Granite Falls and Towering Steppes. You should be at the coordinates 4575, 4974 on your map. Once you’re in place, head up to the mountain to the Ancient Cairn and then move through the gap to your left to find the puzzle. Your goal will be to activate the five devices, in the correct order, and then hit the lever in the middle.
Stand at the level and look at the devices in a semi-circle in front of you. Hit the far right device first, and then move to the one that is second from the left. Next, hit the first one from the left and then move to the device that is second from the right. The middle device should be activated last. Now, quickly move to the level and pull it; you must be fast in order to complete this puzzle, so any abilities that allow you to move quickly will be helpful.
Scarwood Reach: Scarwood by Torchlight
Loot Level: 25 Min, 40 Max
This puzzle is easier to find than the last few before it; simply move to the coordinates 3140, 4420 in the Scarwood Reach zone. There will be a rather steep mountain path up from the left of King’s Breach. You should see six pillars, two with red crystals on them. The goal will be to get the torches set so that they form a path through which you can move. When you have it correct, the torches will form a ring around the opening of the path and your loot chest will spawn at the end of it.
If the puzzle is in its default state when you arrive, the order will be simply Top Left, Middle Right, Bottom Left, and Top Right. If another player has already attempted the puzzle and not completed it, you will probably need to click the buttons at random until the solution is found.
