Rift Stats and Attributes

Rift Stats and Attributes

If you’ve played another MMO before you came to Rift, you will have a relatively easy time deciphering the names of the attributes for each calling and figuring out which stats you need to concentrate on. However, it can still be confusing to sift through the stats listed on your character tab and determine which each one does — or doesn’t do — for you.

The major stats are Health Points, Mana Points and Energy Points. All callings feature the same Health bar, although the starting health values for each of the four callings is different. Mana and Energy are resources that fuel your abilities. Mages and Clerics use Mana, while Rogues and Warriors require Energy for their attacks. Finally, Mages also have a bar for something called ”Charge,” it’s built up and then expended through the use of several abilities.

Each character in Rift has eight attributes, including Armor, Dexterity, Endurance, Intelligence, Strength, Toughness, Valor and Wisdom. While those attributes do the same thing for each character, regardless of class and souls attuned, most will have only two or three that they care to stack.

  • Intelligence: provides Spell Power, Spell Crit and increased maximum Mana
  • Wisdom: provides healing Spell Crit and Mana Regeneration
  • Endurance: provides more hit points, similiar to Stamina in other games
  • Armor: mitigates incoming damage
  • Strength: provides both Attack Power and Physical Critical chance along with Block and Parry
  • Toughness: an attribute which reduces your chance to be critically hit, making this a necessary Tanking stat.
  • Dexterity: provides some Physical Crit along with Dodge and Parry
  • Valor: used mainly on PvP gear to reduces the chance of incoming critical strikes

Keep in mind that it’s not necessarily the class that you’ve chosen that determines what you need, but rather the souls you attune and the role you fill in the party. If your Cleric chooses to tank a party, he’ll want Armor, Strength and Toughness. If he’s doing melee dps, he’ll prefer Dexterity, and if he’s healing, he’ll want Intelligence and Wisdom.
