Rift releases in Russia; keeping content relevant
Russian gamers can now experience the new Trion Worlds MMO , fully localized for that audience, thanks to a partnership between TW and the Russian publisher Game Factory Interactive. GFI publishes a few other games, as well, so they’re no stranger to the online gaming world.
The Russian servers have been populated with the content updates made to the NA and EU versions of the game, as well, meaning that those players will be experiencing the same events and have access to the same revised soul trees and itemized gear.
One of the most important features in Rift is that it offers content both for groups and for those who prefer mainly solo play. With features like the LFG tool for instanced dungeon group matching, and the Chronicles for one- and two-player instances, Trion Worlds is dedicated to making sure that all gamers get the full story line and experience that Rift offers.
One of biggest issues for online persistent world game developers is that as new raiding content is introduced, the previous tiers become obsolete. Without a way to counteract this, Rift could end up in the same boat as older games like World of Warcraft. WoW currently has 11 full tiers of raiding content that rarely see the light of day. (Tier 3 was re-purposed as the Naxxramas raid for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, while both Zul’Gurub from ”vanilla WoW” and Zul’Aman from the Burning Crusade expansion were re-tooled as heroic 5-man instances in the Cataclysm expac.)
To keep that from happening in Rift, the developers at Trion Worlds are committed to ensuring that raid tiers remain relevant. They have been doing that so far by combining Expert Tiers of raiding content. When the same rewards can be had in any of the current raid instances, players are more likely to play a greater selection of raids. That keeps the guild progression moving, helps more players gear up, and keeps players from becoming bored with the same old content, week after week.
