Rift addons you need to try
If you’ve been playing Rift for any amount of time after coming from a different MMO, you’re likely beginning to really miss your addons. Never fear: Trion Worlds released the API necessary for users to begin making mods, and your friends over at Curse.com are already hosting a selection of these. Here are the ones you’re going to come to rely on.
Damage meters are often a source of contention among players, but nothing else is quite as useful for helping you nail down your rotation and try out different specs and play styles. Don’t use it to measure your worth as a human being — or even as a player, for that matter – but when employed responsibly, your damage meter can let you know when you need to make some changes.
While many dps meters only show the damage done, SimpleMeter will also give you the heals per second for your party members. You won’t even need to toggle back and forth between screens, as it’s all shown in the small interface window. You can even see the dps and hps of your enemies, which can be really useful for picking out primary PvP targets.
Finally, the names of your party members and player enemies will be color coded by calling. That may not help you as much in Rift as it could in other games since it’s likely you could have a Cleric tank and a Rogue healer, but it’s still good to have as much info about your foes as possible.
Most players have a Runecrafting alt, even if they aren’t carrying the profession on their main. However, you don’t need to have a Runecrafter to appreciate the beauty of this addon. All augments, along with their target gear piece and stats, are shown here, and you can easily sort to find exactly the Rune you want. Need to find an augment for your bracers? Want to see how many different gear pieces you can augment with Parry? This is the addon for you.
Whether you’re regrouping after a wipe or just coming into a party, it can be difficult to know which buffs are available to you and which ones you’re missing. That’s where nkRebuff comes in handy. You can also customize the addon to only look for certain buffs, or place a higher priority on some buffs.
You can create five different ”buff watch” sets, allowing you to customize the addon for different soul builds and roles you have on your characters. Download this addon and try it out, and make sure to let the author know what you think of it. Positive feedback from the players — and a little constructive criticism — will help make better Rift addons.
