League of Legends

League of Legends is developed by Riot Games and first launched in 2009. The game is free-to-play, and is an action real-time strategy MMO with highly-competitive PvP. Instead of organized by expansions, the game is organized into competitive seasons. Players can compete during seasons for actual cash prizes, although the competition is fierce, since the game is wildly popular worldwide. The game is currently entering Season 2.

The game is based on other Aeon of Strife games such as Defense of the Ancients and Heroes of Newerth. For players unfamiliar with these games, the learning curve can be quite steep, although it is easy to learn the basics of gameplay. League of Legends is a session-based game, and almost all gameplay consists in 3v3 or 5v5 matches with other players, against other players. Players can form teams or queue solo, and rise up the ranks to fight higher skilled teams.

Each match begins with players choosing their Champions, or character classes. There are 85 Champions to choose from. The most difficult part of being new to the game is learning which Champion does what move, and learning how to counteract those moves. League of Legends is all about good teamwork.
