The Battlestar Galactica Online game is a frMMORTS browser game currently in beta. It’s based on the SyFy series Battlestar Galactica, which revolves around the story of the last remnants of humanity fleeing through space from the machine-people they created, the cylons. It’s in beta, which means occasional hiccups, but it should run in any web browser on any platform.

While the TV show revolved around drama, survival and intrigue, those concepts don’t transition well to the land of online games, so the online game focuses on space combat. You pick your faction, either human or cylon, and then you’re sent off to engage in 3D space combat. You can customize the appearance and weaponry of a variety of ships to wage intersteller war.

Weapons are fired automatically, so that you can focus more on the flying and dodging that captures the speed and finesse of the TV show’s combat. There are quest hubs back at your faction base where you can run around and get missions (and customize the appearance of either your human pilot or tin can robot cylon) but the real game is out in space killing computer enemies or fighting other players for dominance of the galaxy. The graphics and haunting soundtrack speak to extremely high production values for a game that’s both free and in-browser.
